Meet at your Marrakech hotel or upon arrival at the airport. We embark on a scenic drive to Boumalne Dades via the Tizi-n-Tichka pass (2,260 meters). Along the route, we’ll search for the Tristram’s Warbler, a species with specific habitat preferences. Raptors such as the Long-legged Buzzard and Bonelli’s Eagle may also be spotted. In Amerzgane, we’ll look for the elusive Maghreb Wheatear and Desert Lark. A stop at the Mansour Eddahbi Reservoir offers opportunities to observe Marbled Duck, Ruddy Shelduck, Black-winged Stilts, and various waders. Dinner and overnight stay in Boumalne Dades.
Day 2: Boumalne Dades – Tagdilt Track – Dades Gorge
An early morning visit to the renowned Tagdilt Track, despite nearby disturbances, remains excellent for special species. We may encounter Cream-coloured Courser, Black-bellied Sandgrouse, Thick-billed, Bar-tailed, Desert, and Temminck’s Horned Larks, as well as Red-rumped and Desert Wheatears, and Trumpeter Finch. Overhead, we’ll watch for Lanner Falcon, Pharaoh Eagle Owl, Long-legged Buzzard, and Mourning Wheatear. In the afternoon, we’ll explore the spectacular Dades Gorge, home to Crag Martin, Blue Rock Thrush, Rock Bunting, and Bonelli’s Eagle. This area also offers a chance to spot the North-west African endemic Tristram’s Warbler. Dinner and overnight in Boumalne Dades.
Day 3: Boumalne Dades – Ouarzazate – High Atlas Mountains – Marrakech
We begin our return to Marrakech, making numerous stops to explore the rocky plateau and High Atlas Mountains. These stops provide additional opportunities to enjoy Morocco’s majestic landscapes and avian specialties. We’ll arrive in Marrakech in the late afternoon. If time permits, we’ll engage in additional birding in the Marrakech area before transferring to the airport, concluding the trip.
